    Alberta Security Training Course

    Start a career in the fast-paced world of security.

    Security workers in Alberta must hold a valid security service workers licence. The Security Services and Investigators Act (SSIA) makes training and testing mandatory. The Accredited Basic Security Training (AccBST) is available online where students can access the training in the virtual classroom.

    This course meets the training standards required for Alberta Basic Security Training. It has been reviewed and accredited by the Ministry. As such, it is an SSIA (Security Services and Investigators Act) Approved Training Course.

    Accredited Basic Security Training Courses (AccBST)
    Accredited basic security training courses have been reviewed by and accredited by the Ministry.  These courses meet the same training standards as the ABST.  Companies offering AccBST will have a Certificate of Accreditation issued by the Ministry of Justice and Solicitor General, Security Programs, as proof of accreditation.  Accreditation must be renewed every 3 years.  For more information, contact the Accreditation Analyst at solgps.training@gov.ab.ca.

    Effective June 1, 2011, all applicants1 for a security workers licence in Alberta must successfully complete a mandatory training course or provide proof of equivalent training in order to qualify for a licence.  Existing licensees and individuals renewing a licence are not required to complete mandatory training at this time. See the SSIA Approved Training Course Provider List above to find a course.
    This training applies to the following licence classes: 

    • Security Service Workers
    • Executive Protection Workers
    • Loss Prevention Workers
    • Patrol Dog Handlers2
    • Security Alarm Responders

    Individuals who obtain a provincial license after taking this course may be employed in one of the following positions:

    • Security Services (static or mobile)
    • Loss Prevention Officers
    • Executive Security (body guards)
    • In-house Security
    • Dog Patrol Services
    • Alarm Responders (those who physically respond; not monitoring a screen)

    one question in my mind is security guard law has been different different in the all state ?. and recently change in law of Florida ? any idea about that
