Audio & Video Allowed?

Post by StevenWS on Sun Aug 03, 2014 12:00 am

Does anyone know if I can put up audio video cameras on a clients property and record people that trespass and commit petty crime or just loiter on the property? I am thinking I can but can not use the audio in court.

What do you think or where can I get info. We are in Alberta.

As far as Criminal Code of Canada goes, as long as your are not viewing the properties of others or view places on your property where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy (washroom, change room etc) then view away. Their may be local requirements for posted notices of the cameras.

I don't think there is a university across Canada that doesn't use them inside and out. Most hospitals use them.

I went and talked to local RCMP and it OK as long as its on the clients property. Should also be posted Video surveillance on site.

You can but you will have to give a valid reason for put up audio video cameras on a clients property.
