Guard Deployment/ Manpower For Facility Empty Guard Deployment/ Manpower For Facility

Post by dmc Thu Aug 20, 2015 12:03 pm

I have a question as it relates to Security staffing in a facility. Hopefully someone has run into this and/or has an answer for me.

I was wondering if there was a mandate or study that explains or describes the amount of security personnel needed for a certain/ specific facility? If so, what is it based off of (square feet, facility risk..etc)?

I have already reached out to the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services but I don't know how long it will take for me to get a response (if i even get one).

any and all input would be great!

Guard Deployment/ Manpower For Facility Empty Guards needed

Post by Admin Thu Aug 20, 2015 6:07 pm

I think we need more information. The facility size, layout and what is being secured inside are very important points. Also how far is it located from Police and medical assistance? What is the goal of the client?

How many personnel needed for a certain/ specific facility is a complex and dynamic question, but, with the support of the right security solution provider or with the help of good security company, a most effective solution is more accessible than ever.

Ontario - there is no regulation as to how many guards are required for size/type of facility. If a client was only willing to pay for 1 guard for a 20 story office tower and a company was will to take that contract then there'd be just 1 guard for that building.

Contract security guards are a dime a dozen..... they are the disposable scapegoats when shit hits the fan.

Ontario is one of the worse provinces for security guards.

-pay is a joke with most guards getting minimum wage
-training is "regulated" and that is a joke. As long as the content covers what is set out by the Ministry that is it. The depth of the content is rarely if ever checked.
-safety is a farce. Working in high crime areas with little to no protection, back-up and pitiful training.
-liability is a huge issue for a guard. Most guards haven't a clue when it comes to liability.

Cuffs and baton....did the company issue them to you? If not, then both you and the company can end up in deep trouble. The regulations for the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005, state the batons and cuffs can only by carried if the company you work for issues them.

What training do you have in there use? Good Use of force training is very important. Part of that training involved determining when not to use force!
